Uber app gets another makeover to focus on food delivery

The Uber ride-hailing app isn't as popular as it once was, so the company is freshening up the homepage.

For users worldwide starting Tuesday, Uber Eats along with bike and e-scooter rentals and grocery orders will all be front and center in one place.

Uber looks a bit different if you open it today.

Grocery delivery through the app Cornershop is only available in Dallas and Miami for U.S. customers, but most users in Latin America and Canada will now see that option on their home screens.

The changes to the Uber app comes after the company's ride-sharing business dropped 73 percent in the second quarter of 2020. Over that same period, food delivery orders were soaring, up 113 percent. Uber reworked its app main page away from the iconic rides map last September. But the usual rides screen returned to most users' phones after a few months and it was back to clicking through the ride-hailing app to order food or opening the separate Uber Eats delivery app. Read more...
